Emet in Torah

About Emet in Torah

Our History

Established in 2017, EMET is West Virginia’s pioneering ministry dedicated to the “One New Man” as outlined in Ephesians 2:14-15. We are committed to fostering reconciliation between the Christian and Jewish communities, striving to dispel the misconceptions perpetuated by historical doctrines of replacement theology and anti-Semitism. While remaining steadfast in our Messiah-centered faith, we cultivate a genuine biblical love for Israel.

Statement of Faith

We believe There is one G-d: “Hear, O Israel: the LORD our G-d, the LORD is one” (Deuteronomy 6:4). “He is G-d; there is no other besides Him” (Deuteronomy 4:35), the unbegotten G-d, first cause, and single source. He discloses Himself in the testimony of creation and through the Scriptures of the Jewish people, and he reveals His complex unity as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the eternal Godhead. Interacting with His creation the Father working through the Son and in the power of the Spirit. (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Ephesians 4:4–6)

•Yeshua  (Jesus) is the Son of G-d, the Messiah, the Eternal One in whom all the fullness of deity dwells in bodily form, and who is the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us, and whose glory we beheld, the glory of the uniquely begotten Son of G-d, full of grace and truth (John 1:1–14; Colossians 2:9). Born of a virgin by the Holy Spirit (Ruach Hakodesh).

•The Spirit of G-d comforts, teaches, leads, indwells, and empowers all whom G-d regenerates (Acts 9:31; 1 John 2:27; John 16:13; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 2 Timothy 1:7).

•Salvation is by grace through faith, Yeshua’s (Jesus) death and resurrection accomplished atonement for all who place their faith in him. Whoever trusts in G-d, in his work alone, is made a new creation in Yeshua,(Jesus) is indwelt by the Spirit of G-d, and is transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of his own Son (Ephesians 2:8–9; Romans 5, 6).

We also Believe…

That the interpretation and translation of any document must reflect the history, culture, language, and geography in which the document was written.  The Bible is no exception.  Emet In Torah uses each of these categories to attempt to understand the sacred text more accurately.

That all Scripture (including the New Testament) is G-d breathed and G-d given. Though we may analyze the words of the Gospels from a Semitic-language frame of reference, we acknowledge the authority of the manuscripts as we possess them.

EMET understands that we are not called to force change onto people. Our job is simply to study, share what we learn, and then to step back and allow G-d to work in hearts and lives. When people start down the path of trying to change others, things go bad quickly. We can only be responsible for our own walk and if we are honest with ourselves, we realize that’s more than enough to deal with!

All of that said, we hope to continue to bring unity. Part of that process involves moving past the divisive foolishness that has hampered our development over the last decade. May The Father give us wisdom and patience, and may He enable us to see one another with the love of Messiah. May we learn and strive continually for unity, understanding, humility, and grace.

2 Corinthians 5:16-21

16So from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Messiah according to the flesh, yet now we no longer know Him this way. 17Therefore if anyone is in Messiah, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.18Now all these things are from G-d, who reconciled us to Himself through Messiah and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. 19That is, in Messiah G-d was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them; and He has entrusted the message of reconciliation to us. 20We are therefore ambassadors for Messiah, as though G-d were making His appeal through us. We beg you on behalf of Messiah, be reconciled to G-d. 21He made the One who knew no sin to become a sin offering on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of G-d.

The Seven Affirmations

Consistent with the principle established in the original Jerusalem Council of Acts Chapter 15 regarding respect for diversity in the Body of Christ concerning Jewish and Gentile identity, we do make the following affirmations:

  1. We affirm the election of Israel, its irrevocable nature and G-d’s unfinished work with the Jewish people regarding salvation and the role of Israel as a blessing to the nations.
  2. We affirm that Jews who come to faith in the Messiah, Jesus, are called to remain true to their identity as Jews and live as part of their people in ways consistent with the New Covenant.
  3. We affirm the formation of Messianic Jewish congregations as a significant and effective way to express Jewish collective identity (in Jesus) and as a means of witnessing to Jesus before the Jewish community. We also affirm Jewish individuals and groups that are part of churches and encourage them in their commitment to Jewish life and identity.
  4. We affirm our willingness as an ecclesiastical body to build bridges to the Messianic Jewish community; to extend the hand of friendship and to pray for their growth and vitality.
  5. We affirm our willingness to share our resources with Messianic Jewish congregations, mission organizations and theological training institutes so as to empower them to fulfill their G-d-given purpose.
  6. We affirm our willingness to be a voice within our own ecclesiastical structures and spheres of influence against all forms of antisemitism, replacement theology (supersessionism) and teaching that precludes the expression of Jewish identity in Jesus.
  7. Finally, we affirm that as Jewish and Gentile expressions of life in Jesus grow organically side by side with distinct identities that G-d will be glorified; that the Kingdom of Heaven will be advanced and that the vision of “the one new man” in Ephesians 2 will unfold as part of the original Abrahamic blessing to the nations.
